"This CD is very good. However know what you are buying! This CD is a mix of Capoeira tracks and Samba tracks. So if you are buying it to use in Capoeira training, it's not so good. But, if you want a mix of Brazilian music which is well produced and fun to listen to, this CD is for you!"

"As a beginner of capoeira, I found this album crucial to expanding my knowledge of capoeira music. Lyrics are not only enjoyable to listen to, but you find yourself singing along straight away. The songs on this album are very catchy, basic, and the tempo spot on for a newcomer to capoeira. I urge anyone who is thinking of joining a capoeira class to purchase this album along with their membership, uniform etc"

"GCAP and Mestre Moraes set the benchmark for capoeira music, while staying close to the traditions. If you are learning to play the berimbau you will find the traditional toques useful. If you will only ever buy one Capoeira CD make it this one!!!"

"I really liked the cd it has some good songs on it, but the best part of it was that they put what rhythms that each song was played to. Overall it was one of the better ones I've ordered."

"I bought that CD from Germany. It has both original Capoeira music with single instruments and new cool Remix songs. You can use this CD in your trainings or Capoeira shows. I strongly recommend this CD for all capoeiristas and tropical music lovers. "

Review

"Capoeira's intriguing tradition is alive and well on this second album by Grupo de Capoeira Angola Pelourinho (their first was the critically acclaimed ANGOLA). This music was written to accompany the movements of capoeira, a mix of martial arts and acrobatic dance from Brazil and Africa. The music, chosen by capoeira musicians, reflects the action of the dance and often symbolically represents greater spiritual andphilosophical life challenges. These traditional songs are marked by the metallic twang of the berimbau (a one-string bow played with a stick), the repetitive beats of the atabaque (standing drum), and the sounds of the pandeiro (which is generally played by four beats and a shake)."

Review

"As a practicing capoeira Angoleiro I was interested in this CD, but purchased it in the "blind" as there were No reviews available whatsoever... Fortunately I was very pleasantly suprised.

This is an excellent CD of traditional capoeira angola songs. The CD is broken down into sets, featuring the typical ladaninha, chula, and multiple corridos. Each "set" is performed by one of the 5 different lead vocalists featured on this CD (with the typical chorus, and batteria backing), and each is punctuated with a well performed musical instrumental (Iauna, Cavalaria, etc.).

The sound quality is extremely good, with exceptional performances on the tracks by Cobra Mansa (tracks 1-7), Poloca (tracks 18-23), and on tracks (32-38, sorry I cannot remeber the singer's name, but he is excellent!). The batteria is fantastic throughout, and provides great energy to the music.

I consider this to be one of the best Capoeira Angola CD's in my collection for it's variation in songs, performers, and excellent instrument playing. Highly reccommendable for training or just casual listening (it will have you singing along!). A definite must have for any Angoleiro. :)"

Review

"Listening to this music without actually seeing the astounding acrobatics and physical movement of the capoeira martial art form is sort of like listening to a movie soundtrack without the movie: you miss the visual aspect, but it allows you to hear the music more fully. Guilherme Franco plays the Brazilian berimbau, a kind of bow with a metal string that is struck with a stick. The sound is like no other percussion instrument; it buzzes, it sustains, it alters pitch like a bent note on a steel-string guitar. Capoeira is a mix of solo pieces ("Juna," "Juna Verdadeira"), pieces accompanied by other instruments (drums on "Sao Bento Grande" and "My Beat," rattle on "Batida Nova Rapida," and flute on "Juna Ocarina"), and full-out songs. But this catalog only hints at the richness of this recording and of the sound the berimbau makes when Franco's stick strikes the string."

Review

I agree that this CD isn't the best for learning the various rhythms. If what you're looking for, however, is a good example of live Capoeira music, this is it! This CD is a recording of an actual roda hosted by Mestre Marrom (Rio de Janeiro) and his students. All the energy and excitement is 100% real - and there's a lot of it. You can even hear places where someone has made a rasteira or a well-placed golpe. The CD is perfect for training, and for learning a few new corridos and some great ladainhas (lyrics are included). You can also play this one for your friends who are new to Capoeira without having to include the disclaimer "well, REAL Capoeira music is a little different...
